KOL / KOC
In one sentence
KOLs (Key Opinion Leaders) are influencers or experts with authority in a niche; KOCs (Key Opinion Consumers) are everyday users with smaller followings who genuinely use the product and influence those around them.
KOLs offer broad reach at a higher cost; KOCs offer scale at lower cost, feel like authentic shares, and often have a more direct impact on buying decisions.
Sponsored content must be labeled as a partnership or ad in line with platform rules.
Example
A maternal and baby brand hires a parenting expert for an in-depth review (KOL) while sending samples to 100 moms to test and share their experiences (KOC).
