Workflow
In one sentence
Break a task into fixed steps and assign them in sequence to AI or humans, with predefined inputs and outputs for each step.
Workflow steps are designed by humans in advance, making them ideal for stable, highly controlled tasks. AI agents can determine their own steps, making them suited for dynamic tasks. In practice, the two are often combined: a fixed overall workflow with specific steps handled flexibly by AI agents.
When designing workflows, add checkpoints after critical steps to pause on errors and prevent mistakes from carrying over to the next step.
Example
Article production workflow: Topic selection -> First draft -> Automated banned word check -> Image selection -> Human review -> Publishing.
